Some people measure a life by the number of years lived.
Hallie Grossman’s life reminds us that it is measured by the number of lives touched.
Hallie entered the world on February 25, 1998, at exactly 2:25 p.m. It was a fitting beginning for someone whose life would become forever connected to the number 225. Though she was with us for only 25 years, Hallie filled those years with enough love, kindness, laughter, and purpose to inspire a lifetime.
From the beginning, Hallie had a spirit that was impossible to ignore. She was fun, energetic, compassionate, and endlessly enthusiastic. She loved making people laugh, dancing whenever music played, competing with friends and family, and creating memories wherever she went. Her smile and laugh could brighten any room.
More than anything, Hallie had a remarkable gift for making people feel like they belonged. Whether you had known her for years or had just met her, she made you feel seen, valued, and included. She celebrated others, encouraged them through difficult times, and believed everyone deserved kindness.
Hallie graduated from Deerfield High School in 2016 and the University of Texas in 2020. After college, she stayed in Austin, working in a medical office while studying for the MCAT. Caring for others was never just a career goal. It was her calling.
In 2022, Hallie returned to Chicago and achieved her dream of joining the Emergency Department at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Working overnight shifts never felt like a burden because she loved caring for patients during some of their most vulnerable moments. Her compassion, intelligence, and calm presence earned the admiration of coworkers and patients alike.
Then everything changed. While working at Northwestern, Hallie was diagnosed with a large tumor above her left kidney.
The caregiver became the patient.
For the next ten months, Hallie courageously fought cancer while receiving treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Through surgeries, treatments, and uncertainty, she continued to comfort others with the same strength, grace, and kindness that had always defined her.
Cancer changed many things. It never changed who Hallie was.
On March 24, 2023, Hallie passed away at just 25 years old.
Her story, however, did not end there. Today, Hallie’s legacy lives on through scholarships, medical grants, acts of kindness, and every person inspired to choose compassion, inclusion, hope, and love.
Hallie believed one person could make the world better.
She proved it. She showed us that kindness is never wasted, joy is contagious, and our greatest purpose is found in serving others.
Twenty-five years was enough for Hallie Grossman to leave a legacy that will last forever.
She is remembered not because she lived the longest, but because she shined the brightest.
That is Hallie’s story. That is Hallie’s legacy. That is The Hallie Way.

Hallie loved elephants.
There are clear parallels between Hallie and her favorite animal; both exude strength, loyalty, wisdom, and a caring nature. To symbolize these traits and pay tribute to the importance of elephants in Hallie's life, we've chosen the elephant as the logo for Hallie225.
